About J.R. Baron

Jennifer R Baron, OCT
For more than thirty years, I had the privilege of teaching elementary students and inspiring children to become curious about the world around them. As an elementary teacher, environmental educator, outdoor education leader, AQ course writer, and university instructor, I discovered that the best learning often begins with a single question. My students taught me that curiosity is one of our greatest teaching tools, and that children learn best when they can wonder, explore, create, and make meaningful connections.

The idea for The Sea Can Stories began in one of my Primary classrooms. While reading a Chickadee magazine article about schools built in unusual ways around the world, my students became fascinated by a small photograph of a school made from a shipping container. Their excitement quickly grew into a month-long, student-led inquiry as they asked questions, researched answers, designed STEM challenges, explored mathematics, read and wrote about transportation, and discovered the remarkable journeys of shipping containers around the world. Watching their curiosity grow inspired me to create The Sea Can Stories that would capture that same sense of wonder for children everywhere.
Today, The Sea Can Stories combine engaging adventures with opportunities for inquiry-based, hands-on learning. Through picture books, educator resources, activity books, and author visits, I hope to inspire children to ask questions, think creatively, and discover the fascinating stories hidden in the everyday world around them. Whether you are a teacher, librarian, parent, or young reader, I hope these stories encourage you to see that learning can begin with something as simple as asking, “I wonder…”
Every great inquiry begins with a story.
